In ancient age, the early man used stones, rope knots, wood, sand, to count the days because he was not aware of numbers and counting devices. Later gradually he started learning to use his hand and fingers for counting. It was a great achievement in that age but in case of large quantities( large numbers than ten human fingers) he was unable to use hand. Then he used various natural items like pebbles, slender tree branches, carving for counting, during this period numbers came into existence. After the existence of numbers many counting devices were invented and one of them was Abacus.
